The wastewater treatment plant in the municipality of Cahul plays an essential role in environmental protection and in maintaining the quality of life for the city’s residents. Built several decades ago, the plant required urgent modernization, both technologically and operationally, to meet current requirements for efficient wastewater treatment. Through this project, works were planned for the complete rehabilitation of the existing infrastructure and the installation of modern filtration, settling and biological treatment equipment. At the same time, the project provided for the integration of an automated system for monitoring and controlling operating parameters, which enables rapid interventions and increased efficiency in the treatment process.

The modernization of the plant directly contributes to:

• a significant reduction in pollution of the Frumoasa River, into which the treated waters are discharged;
• an increase in the capacity to process wastewater generated by the population and economic operators;
• compliance with national and European environmental standards;
• reduced energy consumption and operating costs through energy-efficient equipment.

In addition to its environmental impact, the project also has an important social component, as it improves sanitary conditions for thousands of residents and contributes to the creation of temporary jobs during the implementation period.
